Statement on the Government's response to school holiday meals and activities legislation

19 Jan 2018
Commenting on the Government’s response to the School Holidays (Meals and Activities) Bill this afternoon, in which it committed to a programme of pilot projects and research into how best to ensure more children from disadvantaged families benefit from meals and activities during the holidays, Frank Field MP, who drafted the Bill, said:

'Today marks the biggest move in over 100 years by a government specifically committing itself to a programme of work to eliminate child hunger. There's much more work to be done now through the government's pilot schemes and research, but a major step has been taken today to end hunger as we have known it in the school holidays and, in so doing, massively to improve the educational prospects of disadvantaged children.'
