Feeding Birkenhead publishes half term food and fun programme

Frank Field MP’s Feeding Birkenhead campaign today publishes its timetable of activities for next week’s half term.

Five projects will be providing meals and fun activities for children as part of the campaign’s effort to help families struggling to meet the extra costs of school holidays.

The campaign delivered free meals and fun activities for 646 children during the summer holiday, with parents describing the activities as a ‘god send’ in the absence of free school meals.

Frank said: ‘Yet again families in Birkenhead will be able to access this valuable service so that their children needn’t go without during the holidays. Our town is setting a superb example which I am encouraging other parts of the country to follow.’

In response to Frank’s campaign, Aberdeen City Council in Scotland has confirmed that it is looking to introduce a similar programme.

This week, Frank also secured two commitments from HMRC to improve the way it handles tax credit and Child Benefit claims so that fewer families are left with no money.
