5,015 patients waiting longer than 18 weeks for treatment at Arrowe Park
Birkenhead’s MP Frank Field has discovered that almost a quarter of patients waiting for planned treatment at Arrowe Park have been on the waiting list for longer than 18 weeks.
The data shows that, included within that group of 5,015 patients:
- 1,040 patients have been waiting longer than 18 weeks for general
- 517 patients have been waiting longer than 18 weeks for trauma and orthopaedic treatment
- 394 patients have been waiting longer than 18 weeks for urology treatment
- 641 patients have been waiting longer than 18 weeks ophthalmologic treatment
The data emerged in response to a series of Parliamentary Questions that Frank tabled to the Health and Social Care Secretary, Jeremy Hunt MP, in which it was also revealed that while 88.2% of patients in England are seen within 18 weeks, that figure drops to 77.7% in Wirral.
Commenting on the data, Frank said: ‘Not surprisingly the postponement of treatment formed a major part of Arrowe Park’s coping strategy during the winter months. But there are many seriously ill people who are suffering, and will continue to do so, as a result of this strategy. Worse still, Wirral’s performance on this front is falling a long way below the national average. The job of easing this suffering must be at the top of the new management team’s inbox.’
