The Politics of Paradise

In this compelling book the author traces the concept of an ideal society from its Old Testament origins, beginning with the forging of a covenant between God and His people. It is a tradition within which we have to view Christ’s presentation of the coming of His Kingdom.

But what is the Kingdom? And how is it to be extended? It cannot be packaged like a party manifesto. Nor can it be simply equated with the Church. And, while not excluding man’s actions, it cannot be achieved through the creation of an exclusively man-made Utopia.

So can there be a Christian approach to politics? The author contends that the answer lies ultimately with each and every one of us, in our individual and collective responses. Christianity is a way of life, not a blueprint for action. The nature of politics is more about our attitudes than a set of programmes. Only by adopting those attitudes can we achieve a clearer perception of God’s vision of the world, and thereby participate in the growth of the Kingdom which is ultimately dependent upon his grace and power.
