Frank Field presents a cross-party bill to unveil who owns London

Frank Field MP today presents to the House of Commons a bill which represents the first big move to strip the veil of secrecy away from who owns London, with a view to rolling it out gradually across the country.

The Property Ownership in London (Registration) Bill would require the creation of a register of owners of property in the Greater London area, including details of the name of the owner of each property and the name of the beneficiary owner in the case of properties owned by a trust or similar body. The bill, which has cross-party support, would for the first time expose which parts of London have been bought up for the purposes of money laundering and other forms of corruption.

Commenting on the bill, Frank said: ‘I very much hope the Government, as part of its anti-corruption offensive, will adopt this bill in the Queen’s Speech.’
