The Liverpool City Region Child Poverty and Life Chances Commission, chaired by Frank Field MP, today reveals that 4,000 more children in Merseyside will be affected by the household benefit cap when it is lowered from £26,000 to £20,000 in April. This represents a more than trebling of the 1,556 children who are currently affected.

The Liverpool City Region Child Poverty and Life Chances Commission has found that each year poor children are missing out on £440,000 worth of free school meals, to which they are entitled, and £1.1 million in funding towards their education. ?Frank Field MP, the Chair of the Commission, wrote to each Merseyside local authority asking whether they use their Housing Benefit records automatically to identify and then register all eligible children for free school meals.
