Magenta, to its great, has totally changed its strategy on Crossways

During the General Election I was stopped by a constituent who lived on Dacre Hill. He was angry at the condition of his home – and many others on the estate – and how the damp had affected his son’s health. I visited along with the three Rock Ferry councillors and was appalled.

Likewise, at our regular constituency meetings at the Town Hall, a group of residents from Crossways angrily presented the case for urgent action.

Their estate had been allowed to run down as Magenta couldn’t find the investment necessary to maintain it.

Large numbers of houses were left empty and the estate was being overrun by vermin.

On Saturday morning I visited Crossways and the group of residents who had so brilliantly put forward their demands for action.

Magenta, to its great credit, has totally changed its strategy. It has now decided to invest and to begin a programme of ensuring that the whole area regains the dignity it once had.

Two houses have now been renovated as showhouses. Residents are coming to choose which option they would like for their own home.

A possible fly in the ointment however... how do we prevent the hoi polloi getting a new home and through their slovenly behaviour start to bring the standard of the estate down again?

The residents have asked if I could check the law to see what powers they might have to help Magenta in selecting new residents to ensure that only decent families are considered. I’ll report progress.
