Celebrating the free school uniforms service

31
Mar

Might I take this opportunity to hope Birkenhead’s residents enjoyed a Happy Easter? Easter this year brought two hugely exciting pieces of news for the town’s children.

Many parents might have used the break to buy their children new school clothing to accommodate the warmer weather. Such clothing of course can often come at a hefty cost. But, over the next month, help is at hand.

The Oxton Gateway community project helps to deliver Wirral’s free school uniforms service (FUSS) and until the end of April it will be collecting and donating uniforms from the Pyramids Shopping Centre.

They will be based at 17 Milton Pavement – the road connecting Costa and Farmfoods – between 10am and 3pm each day.

The project – since last July – has already received 250 kilos of clothing, but it remains on the lookout for further donations. Should you wish to donate, or indeed to collect, you can call 0151 200 0815.

Most senior school stock is available to reserve online at www.wirralfuss.co.uk. Although primary school items are not listed there, parents can call into the shop to see what’s on offer.

A second piece of good news comes in what might await some children when they return to school after their Spring Break. For the council is working, as part of the Feeding Birkenhead campaign, to get daily breakfast clubs up and running in three schools serving the Beechwood Estate and the North End.

All of the food would be good quality produce that has been intercepted from going to landfill or being turned into energy.

Watch this space for further news.
